You don't have to be good.

Have you ever had an idea for something you wanted to bring into the world--a poem, a movie, an invention, a trip--only to be stymied by the process?

We all have creative impulses, but too often we doubt ourselves out of pursuing them. "There are better ways to spend our time," we tell ourselves. "Other people are better at it." Or "What if I'm not any good?"

But creating is about the process, not the product. Kurt Vonnegut wrote:

"Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something."

This website is the tool I created for when I doubt myself. It compiles and randomly generates advice from artists, writers and creators who have also pushed themselves to keep creating. It takes its name from this wonderful poem by Mary Oliver.
